Distracted driving isn’t just a problem on highways and roads. In Florida, it’s a problem on our beaches too.  Now, one beach county is ready to take action.

The Volusia County City Council is considering a new ordinance that would ban texting while driving on the beach.  If a driver on the beach is caught texting, the driver would be kicked off the beach for the rest of the day.  The ordinance would also require beach drivers to roll down their windows and turn their headlights on.

According to Scott Petersohn, Deputy Chief of the Volusia County Beach Patrol, texting while driving on the beach is a problem he sees all the time.  He supports the enactment of any ordinance that would make drivers more aware of the people around them.

Our Treasure Coast auto accident attorneys urge all Florida drivers to stay focused while on the beach or on the road and to not drive while distracted.
