Last week, we wrote about the increase in car accidents in Broward and Palm Beach counties.   In that article, we explained that distracted driving is likely to blame for the rise.

Now, Florida’s Department of Transportation and the Florida turnpike authority are working to enhance the safety of the Florida Turnpike in that area.  New high tension cable barriers are being installed on both the northbound and southbound sides of the turnpike.

The cables were tested through a pilot program, and the tests resulted in no penetration through the cables and no fatalities due to crossovers.  The work is taking place between mile marker 234 and the Yeehaw Junction exit.

We advise everyone driving in that area to be cautious as work proceeds.  And as always, we urge all Florida drivers to stay focused while driving.
