Cellphones aren’t the only distractions for drivers. Pets, too, can steal drivers’ attention from the road. A Florida driver recently became distracted by her dog in her car and struck a school bus, according to a recent report in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Darlene E. Polonski was traveling westbound on Moccasin Wallow Road near Tamiami Trail in Manatee County when she veered into the path of the school bus, causing a collision.  The bus was transporting five children, ages 7 to 11, none of whom was hurt. Polonski, however, suffered serious injuries.

We urge all Florida drivers to properly restrain their pets while driving and to pay attention to the road.
