GranuFlo Lawsuit

GranuFlo is a chemical component of a solution used in many dialysis machines. It helps clean the blood of a patient with impaired kidneys, as it prevents the building up of threatening acids that are otherwise naturally removed by properly functioning kidneys.

In recent years, however, it has been found that using the product can elevate the body’s sodium bicarbonate concentrations to dangerous or even fatal levels. GranuFlo manufacturer Fresenium Medical Care failed to warn patients and doctors of numerous dangers associated with the drug, even if documented evidence shows that they were previously aware of these risks.

In March 2012, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration were presented with a leaked internal memo from Fresenium Medical Care dated November 2011 that warned physicians working in their 1,800 kidney dialysis clinics of the potentially fatal side effects resulting from GranuFlo products. The FDA immediately issued a Class I Recall.

Common GranuFlo side effects, symptoms and health conditions reported by patients who have been given GranuFlo products include low blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrhythmia, cardiopulmonary arrest, hypoxemia, hypercapnia, and sudden cardiac death.

Individuals in the state of Florida who have developed a serious health condition due to GranuFlo may have the grounds to file a claim to seek monetary compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other damages. At the Law Offices of Philip DeBerard, Injury Attorney, our team of legal professionals can help clients from all across South Florida and the Treasure Coast with such cases.
