Top 7 Speed Traps In Port St. Lucie, FL

Speed Traps in Port St. LucieNo one wants a speeding ticket, what with the hassle and costs it brings.

But every city has speed traps, and if you don’t want to get caught unaware while driving, take note of the spots where traffic enforcers are present but not immediately noticeable.

In Port St. Lucie, these are seven of the most notorious speed traps.

Crosstown Parkway

Starting from I-95 all the way to the Turnpike Bridge, this road has a scattering of police in unmarked cars and motorcycles. It may be easy to go fast on this road, with its three to four lanes and light traffic, but remember that the speed limit here is only 45 mph.

Darwin Boulevard

When you are approaching Treasure Coast High School on SW Darwin Blvd., take note that the speed limit decreases from 35 to 30 mph. Commuters have spotted police stopping vehicles on this curve.

Westmorland Avenue

Just south of Port St. Lucie Blvd., the speed limit on Westmorland changes from 35 to 30 mph. The road gently slopes downhill here, so it may take some additional driving attention to slow down. But it’s better to be slow than sorry, as police have often been spotted behind some foliage on an island in this area.

Selvitz Road

Pay extra attention when you are approaching the Lighthouse Chapel Community Church, as cops have been seen near the church’s sign on random days, with radar and laser speed devices. Remember that the speed limit in this area is only 30 mph.

Florida’s Turnpike

The turnpike is filled with traffic enforcers all throughout, but in Port St. Lucie, there is always one on either side of the highway, according to commuters. They actively use their radar detectors even past midnight, when traffic is light.

Indian River Drive

There are a couple of known speed traps along this road. Just north of Walton, there is an S-curve that distinguishes an area that motorists consider a hot spot. There is also another about half a mile further north.

SE Becker Road

Commuters have noticed two traffic enforcement motorcycles and a car doing speed checks here in the mornings and sometimes in the afternoons. The speed limit in this zone is 40 mph, which might make sense because of various risk factors such as heavy traffic, wildlife, and visibility issues from direct sunlight.

Speed traps may cause a hassle for the unsuspecting, but with the incredible number of speeding accidents across the state, it’s always better to obey the rules than to invite disaster. Excessive speed has killed thousands of Floridians and injured many more. If you or a loved one has been hurt in a speeding accident, the reliable Philip DeBerard is ready to help you.
