The Florida Highway Patrol, writing in a press release, has issued a preliminary report on the New Years’ Eve car crash that claimed the life of one victim and injured three others.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM on December 31, 2017. The location was on Midway Road (County Road 712) in the outside lane approaching Glades Cut Off Road (County Road 709). This is on the outskirts of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie.
As the FHP relates, a car driven by Anthony Ahrens, 25, of Fort Pierce, was in the outside lane approaching Glades Cut Off Road while at the same time a vehicle driven by Ednelson Laguerre, 25, of Fort Pierce, was slowing down to make a right turn. Laguerre was in the lead vehicle.
Ahrens failed to slow down and collided with the rear of Laguerre’s vehicle, the crash then killing Zyanna Laguerre, age 3, of Fort Pierce. Ednelson Laguerre suffered minor injuries while another passenger, Kyah Laguerre, age 1, incurred serious injuries.
Ahrens was not injured.
A third vehicle was involved, that being driven by Daniel Duverton, 49, of Port St. Lucie. He suffered minor injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
