Wpbf.com reports that Riviera Beach resident Tairia Lee, 24, was critically injured Wednesday morning when the car she was in was struck by an Amtrak train.
The accident occurred in Palm Beach at the railroad crossing located at 25th Street and Windsor Avenue.
The train was filled with passengers but none of them were injured.
Lee was taken immediately to St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Eyewitnesses to the wreck did not want to be identified, however, they told a WPBF television crew that the railroad crossing has had problems before, in fact, a witness said crews were at the location fixing a problem Tuesday night. Additional reporting by Wpbf.com has witnesses saying the crossing arms may have been in the up position as directed by a VTMI employee. Lee may in fact have been waved through by this employee. The National Transportation Safety Board is now working the case.
The accident remains under investigation.
We at DeBerard Injury Attorney wish to express our deepest sympathy to the victim in this terrible accident. May she pull through and recover quickly.
All railroad workers must exercise responsibility when performing their duties. A personal injury suit based on negligence may exist if a person or agency acted out of carelessness or neglect.
