In an official press release, the Florida Highway Patrol is reporting on the death of a woman as the result of a passenger vehicle crash with a semi-truck.
The accident happened at approximately 3:30 PM on Friday afternoon. The location was County Road 606 (Oslo Road) and Citrus Springs Road in Indian River County. This accident scene is south of Vero Beach.
As the FHP relates, a Honda CRV was stopped at the stop sign of Citrus Springs Road in the left turn lane at the intersection with Oslo Road. The driver of that vehicle was Susan Roberson, 69, of Vero Beach. The second vehicle involved was a Peterbilt semi-truck driven by Danny Penny, 48, of Orlando. This truck was traveling westbound on CR-606 in the inside lane.
The Honda began its left turn entering the path of the semi-truck, coming to a complete stop in the inside lane of westbound Oslo Road. The front of the semi-truck collided with the left side of the Honda. The truck pushed the Honda in a westerly direction until the two separated. The semi came to a final rest in the left lane of CR-606 with its front left tire stopped on top of the concrete median.
The truck driver was not injured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
