According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two people have died this evening as the result of a wrong way driver. The time was approximately 6:53 PM.
Dead are Santia Myriah Feketa, 17, of Fort Pierce and Britney Lee Poindexter, 16, of Port St. Lucie.
As the FHP relates, Walter Arther, 98, of Dearborn Michigan was driving a recreational vehicle the wrong way on State Road 70, otherwise known as Okeechobee Road, going westbound in the inside eastbound lane. At the same time, the two teenagers were proceeding eastbound in a pickup. The two vehicles crashed into each other near mile post 137.
The driver of the RV, Arther, was received by a hospital for what are termed critical injuries. A passenger in the RV, Carolyn Elizabeth-Evans Bruns, 75, of Birghton, Michigan is said to have suffered serious injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
