An Okeechobee motorcyclist was hit Friday morning by a pickup truck that allegedly turned in front of him. The motorcyclist’s injuries were so severe that he was airlifted to Fort Pierce’s Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.

The accident happened at U.S. 441 South and S.E. 37th Court in Okeechobee.

The Okeechobee News reports that Raymond Landen Dean, 66, was travelling northbound on his motorcycle on U.S. 441 at about 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, when he was struck.

The News quoted a Florida Highway Patrol news release, stating that Fruitland Park resident Terry C. Harrison, 61, was westbound in a 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup truck on S.E. 37th Court, when he tried to turn left onto U.S. 441 North.

In their release, the FHP stated that Mr. Harrison pulled into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.

Mr. Dean turned to avoid hitting the pickup, but was struck when his motorcycle collided with the left side of the pickup.

The pickup driver was uninjured, as was his passenger, Betty W. Harrison, 62, also of Fruitland Park. The FHP reported that Mr. Harrison was charged with violating the right of way.
