The Sun-Sentinel reports that a fatality occurred at 2:15 Friday afternoon when an automobile collided with a motorcycle near the 6600 block of West Atlantic Boulevard. The motorcyclist was 34-year-old Peter Mascaro of Coral Springs. He died at the scene, while the car driver was sent to Broward Health North with minor injuries.
The site was one of devastation and tragedy. Police closed a portion of West Atlantic Boulevard for more than three hours. As cleanup crews sanded down the roadway to help with spilled automotive fluids, a destroyed Toyota Corolla was removed from the top of what was left of the motorcycle.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Sun-Sentinel writer Linda Trischitta talked with Margate Police Sgt. Efrain Suarez. The officer is quoted as saying, “We’re not really sure [of the cause] yet because there are conflicting witness reports. Their stories are all over the place.”
