The Florida Highway Patrol and the PalmBeachPost.com reports that two men died today in an early morning chain collision accident involving two tractor trailer rigs and an automobile. The accident occurred on State Route 80 at Sugarhouse Road in Palm Beach County.
Dead are Jeremy T. Banks, 21, of South Bay, Florida and Martin Willis Gray, 54, of Ocala, Florida. Banks was the driver of a Mazda. Gray was driving a Kenworth tractor trailer. The third vehicle was a Peterbilt tractor trailer driven by Erick Vinson, 54, of West Palm Beach, Florida. He is in serious condition.
As the FHP details, Jeremy T. Banks Jr. was traveling northbound in his Mazda on Sugarhouse Road. Martin Willis Gray’s tractor trailer was traveling eastbound on SR-80. Erick Vinson’s tractor trailer was traveling westbound on SR-80.
Banks Jr. entered the intersection and was struck on the left side by the front of Martin Gray’s truck. Banks Jr.’s car and Martin Gray’s rig were thrown into the median.
Gray’s truck then overturned and partially entered the westbound lanes of SR -80. There it was struck by Erick Vinson’s tractor trailer. Vinson’s tractor trailer careened off the roadway and burst into flames.
Jeremy T. Banks Jr. and Martin Willis Gray were pronounced dead at the scene.
Vinson was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by air rescue.
Toxicology reports are pending. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
