According to the Florida Highway Patrol and TCPalm.com, two people died yesterday in an accident involving two passenger vehicles and a tractor trailer near Vero Beach in Indian River County.

The accident occurred on southbound I-95 at mile mark 148.

The FHP says a Hyundai Elantra driven by Gary C. Karl, 44, of Tequesta was traveling at high rate of speed on I-95 in the inside lane. Karl’s vehicle then collided with the car ahead of him. This car was driven by Jarquin Yahoska, 28, of West Palm Beach. The resulting collision precipitated a series of events, whereby a tractor trailer rig following Karl hit Karl’s Hyundai and spun it around. In the resulting crash, the big rig overturned and came to rest of the grass shoulder of I-95.

Killed in the accident were Karl along with his passenger, a Deirdre Martin, 45, of St. Albans, Vermont.

No one was injured in Yahoska’s vehicle. The driver of the tractor trailer, Jaime Ortiz, 37, of Fort Pierce, suffered only minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

We at DeBerard Injury Attorney extend our condolences to everyone connected to this terrible accident. While every automobile wreck is tragic, we would remind people that a fatality due to negligence may lead to a wrongful death case.
