The Florida Highway Patrol is reporting this evening that a multiple car crash this morning took the life of one person and left another seriously injured.
Killed was Dennis Kay, 67, of Port St. Lucie. Seriously hurt was Gail Olmeda, 81, also of Port St. Lucie.
Troopers state that at 10:02 AM local time, the car driven by Olmeda was proceeding northbound on US-1 in the left turn lane for Rio Mar Drive. At the same time, Kay’s car was heading southbound on US-1 in the inside lane. At this point, Olmeda turned directly in front of Kay’s car, striking his vehicle. The resulting collision in turn involved a third vehicle, driven by Fort Pierce resident, 39 year old David Cato, Jr. Cato was not injured.
Both injured drivers were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center where Kay was pronounced dead.
