The U.S. Department of Transportation has published the text of Secretary Ray LaHood’s keynote speech at the Florida Distracted Driving Summit last month. Around that time, we posted some general information about the summit. As a Florida accident law firm, we agree with his call for greater awareness of the risk of accidents from distracted driving.

LaHood’s remarks highlight some specific concerns regarding distracted driving. He notes that in 2010, 3,092 people were killed and an estimated 416,000 others were injured by distracted drivers. He also discusses the efforts his office is making to combat the issue.

You can read his speech in its entirety here.

The law firm of Philip DeBerard, Injury Attorney, echoes LaHood’s call for every driver to take personal responsibility for paying attention behind the wheel. Our firm focuses on helping accident victims in Stuart, Jupiter, Port St. Lucie, Okeechobee, Fort Pierce, Palm Beach and Vero Beach.
