Schools in Manatee County are facing an odd problem–their buses keep getting rear-ended.  And distracted driving is apparently to blame.

Already this year, five Manatee County school buses have been rear-ended.  In four of those crashes, the bus was not moving.  In all five incidents, there were no signs that the offending vehicle driver even applied the brakes.

This evidence has led many school officials to suspect that distracted driving is to blame for the crashes.  In the most recent incident, a Mustang collided into a bus on an interstate exit ramp.  The car was totaled, and the driver was cited for careless driving.

The average text message takes 4.6 seconds to send.  A vehicle travelling 55 mph will move 100 yards in that amount of time.  If the driver isn’t paying attention, a collision may occur.

Our Treasure Coast auto accident attorneys urge all Florida drivers to stay focused while driving.
