Distracted driving is a growing problem among our nation’s teens. In fact, about 40 percent of teens say they have been in a car when the driver used a cellphone in a way that was dangerous. That’s why AT&T has asked all drivers to take the “It Can Wait” or “No Text” pledge. Wharton High School in Tampa got involved in a big way.

According to a local news report, Amal Forbes of Wharton PTSA Health and Safety Committee said that students took part in several anti-distracted driving activities. Events at the school included a 10-minute distracted driver video from AT&T and a driving simulator.

“The program has one goal: to save lives,” Forbes said. “While doing that we hope to change the negative behavior.”

We applaud Wharton High School for its efforts to educate teens about the dangers of distracted driving. As always, we urge all Florida drivers to pay attention while behind the wheel.
