Motorcyclist Bruce Schmaling Killed in Crash With Car At Aviation Boulevard and NW 43d in Indian River County

The Florida Highway Patrol, in an official press release, reports that Bruce Kenneth Schmaling, 57, of Vero Beach, was killed yesterday afternoon in a motorcycle versus automobile crash. The accident occurred at Aviation Boulevard and NW 43d in Indian River County.

The FHP states a Honda Accord driven by Kaitlin Blum, 28, of Port St. Lucie, was proceeding eastbound on Aviation Boulevard at approximately 3:12 PM. At the same time, motorcyclist Schmaling was traveling westbound on the same street. The Accord made a left turn in front of the motorcyclist, hitting him and in so doing throwing him off his bike.

Schmaling was transported to Lawnwood Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. No one in the Honda was injured.

The accident continues to be investigated. No word on whether any charges will be filed.
