The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Ronald Cook, 68, of Davie, was fatally injured when he was run over by a tractor trailer on the Florida Turnpike.

The accident occurred on the Turnpike north of Southern Boulevard in West Palm Beach in Palm Beach County.

The FHP states that Cook was standing next to a parked pickup pulling a utility trailer. The vehicle was stopped on the east shoulder in the northbound direction. It is speculated that the driver of the tractor trailer, Rodolfo Gonzalez, Jr., 41, of Lake Worth, suffered from a medical issue since his vehicle left the roadway, striking Cook and the parked vehicle. The tractor trailer continued until it struck a chain link fence.

Cook was pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Hospital. The passenger of the pickup, Susan Cook, 64, of Davie, was not injured.

The accident continues to be under investigation.

Everyone at DeBerard Injury Attorney is deeply saddened by this tragic accident. We hope the friends and family of the deceased are able to come together in this time of mourning. Safety on the highways is always of paramount concern. Depending on the circumstances of the accident, a wrongful death suit may be warranted against an individual or a corporation.
