Pedestrian Holly Lucas Killed in Car Crash on Florida Turnpike in St. Lucie County

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Holly Lucas, 38, of Port St. Lucie, was killed yesterday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle driven by Todd Cook, 52, of Vero Beach.

The accident occurred on the Florida Turnpike, State Road 91, near the 142d Mile Marker.

Troopers state Cook’s vehicle, a FRHT van, was traveling northbound on State Road 91 in the inside lane. The pedestrian, Holly Lucas, was also in the inside travel lane, attempting possibly to cross the Turnpike. Although Cook applied his brakes and veered to the left, he still hit Lucas with the front of his vehicle.

Lucas was transported to the Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation.
