Pedestrian John Salvatore Romano, 42, of Cape Coral, was killed this morning when he was hit by an 18 wheeler.

The accident occurred on eastbound State Route 60 west of Blue Cypress Lake in rural Indian River County.

The Florida Highway Patrol report says that a tractor trailer driven by Sammy Delgado-Santana, 38, of Lakeland, was traveling in the eastbound lane of State Route 60 when the accident occurred. The report says Romano at that time was standing in the outside lane of that same road. Delgado-Santana says he swerved his Mack truck to avoid hitting Romano but was unable to do so.

The accident remains under investigation.

Everyone at DeBerard Injury Attorney is saddened by this tragedy. Tractor trailer rigs are hard to maneuver and take a long time to stop. They require extraordinary care to be operated safely. A wrongful death suit may be warranted in the case of someone acting negligently.
