Corey Edward Johnson Killed in Big Rig Crash on Route 60 In Indian County

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Corey Edward Johnson was killed in a multiple big rig accident this morning. The FHP states Oliver F. Tejada, 44, of Lakeland was driving eastbound in a Freightliner semi-truck on State Route 60 in Indian County in the outside lane. Johnson, 42, also of Lakeland, was slowing his big rig in the same outside lane, preparing to make a right turn into a sod farm. He was ahead of Tejada’s truck.

Tejada failed to note Johnson’s truck in front of him and was unable to brake in time. Because of this, Tejada’s truck crashed into Johnson’s rear trailer. Tejada’s truck came across the south shoulder, while Johnson’s truck was propelled across the grassy median. Johnson’s truck came to rest in some shrubbery alongside the roadway.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Tejada suffered no injuries. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
