The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Patrocinio Libre, 85, of Port St. Lucie, was killed early this afternoon when the car she was a passenger in careened off of I-95 North and hit a tree. The driver, Nicholas Trombetta, 74, also of Port St. Lucie, was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center with critical injuries. The accident happened near Indiantown Road.

The FHP states that Trombetta’s vehicle was traveling northbound on I-95 when for unknown reasons he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to come off the roadway. The accident remains under investigation. Pending a further report, it is unknown whether alcohol had anything to do with Trombetta’s driving.
