Suspected DUI Crash Critically Hurts 2 In West Palm Beach

Despite increased campaigns against drunk-driving, the US – and specifically Florida – is still rife with vehicle accidents involving alcohol. Just last Friday, two people sustained critical injuries in a West Palm Beach car crash which authorities suspect was a case of DUI, reports WPTV.

According to officers, two vehicles were on Roebuck Road, one heading east and the other heading west at around 3 a.m. Towards the intersection with Military Trail, a troublesome road in the past, the westbound vehicle crossed over, hitting the eastbound car head-on.

The two unnamed people with critical injuries were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Investigators at the scene said they suspect alcohol played a factor in the wreck.

Unfortunately, it would not be surprising if the accident turns out to be a DWI/DUI case. Statistics show that in the US, drunk driving injures one person every roughly 90 seconds and kills 28 people each day.

Zooming in to Florida, thousands of drivers are involved in alcohol-related accidents each year. According to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, 33,625 drivers were convicted of impaired driving in 2011 alone. Additionally, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that in 2012, Florida’s rate of alcohol-related deaths was at 3.7 percent, higher than the US average of 3.3 percent.

Just because DUI cases are so common doesn’t mean they are something we can just routinely live with. Drunk-driving accident victims suffer through a great disruption in their lives, often involving serious injuries, huge medical bills, and emotional pain. In many cases, families even lose loved ones in such accidents.

This is why the law entitles accident victims or their families to compensation and justice. While these cannot undo the devastation, it can help them rebuild their lives after the accident. Some people hesitate taking any legal steps, thinking it would only give them additional stress. But the process of achieving justice and compensation can be less burdensome with the help of a reliable accident lawyer.
