North Palm Beach Hit-and-Run DUI Crash Sends Man To Hospital

Individuals who operate a vehicle assume a responsibility for other people on the road. When drivers make a poor choice, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, accidents can occur. The situation can get worse when a negligent driver leaves the scene of the crash.

North Palm Beach Police say a 33-year-old woman of Palm Beach Gardens allegedly crashed her Nissan Altima into a pickup truck that was stopped at an intersection on U.S. 1 on the morning of November 20.  The driver of the Altima drove away. A police officer noticed the damaged pickup in traffic on Northlake near U.S. Route 1. While the officer was talking to the driver, another motorist said the Altima was in a parking lot south of Northlake Boulevard. The pickup driver was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police found the Altima in the parking lot, with two beer cans and a bottle of pills believed as a Schedule II narcotic substance in her car. The driver was visibly intoxicated, struggledkeeping her balance, and refused to participate in other sobriety tests. She faces DUI and hit-and-run charges, and was bookedin the Palm Beach County Jail.

There are different reasons why a driver chooses not to stop after being involved in a traffic accident, including driving without a driver’s license or auto insurance, an outstanding warrant, or driving while under the influence of alcohol or an illegal substance. When the hit-and-run driver is apprehended and arrested, he or she may face serious criminal charges.

The hit-and-run driver’s arrest or conviction may be comforting for injured victims, but the victims’ financial losses are not addressed by the criminal justice system.  To hold an intoxicated or hit-and-run driver legally liable for the victims’ losses, the injured victims should pursue a civil action against the driver. With the legal assistance of a Florida accident attorney, victims of hit-and-run accidents may obtain the compensation they deserve.
