Beeline Highway Head-On Collision Kills 1 and Injures Another

A head-on collision is perhaps the most horrific type of car accident. When two vehicles strike one another from opposite directions, the resulting injuries can be catastrophic especially when the collision involves a passenger car and a truck.

Earlier this week a head-on collision occurred on a two-lane stretch of Beeline Highway that caused the tragic death of one driver and the serious injury of another. A 26-year-old Boca Raton man was driving a Honda Accord westbound on Beeline highway when his car collided head-on with a 1996 Dodge truck while he was attempting to pass slower traffic. The truck, driven by a 44-year-old Philadelphia man, was hauling a trailer carrying three cars. The driver of the Honda Accord was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver suffered severe injuries and was flown to a hospital in West Palm Beach.

Head-on collisions usually occur when a driver drifts into the lane of oncoming traffic while negotiating a curve or going straight. Other head-on collisions occur when one driver crosses the line in an attempt to pass slower vehicles, which was the case of the Boca Raton man. As of the time of posting, authorities are still investigating whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were factors in the car wreck.

In head-on collisions, liability generally lies with the driver who left their lane of travel and crossed into the lane of oncoming traffic. This means that the seriously injured driver of the truck  has the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit against the estate of the driver who caused the crash.

The plaintiff’s testimony and the testimony of witnesses to the wreck are often used to prove that the other driver was negligent. In complex cases, accident reconstruction experts may be called to testify and give their expert opinion on what actually happened based on evidence at the crash scene.
