Bicyclist Injured After Being Pinned Under Car in Boynton Beach

The number of bicyclists has increased exponentially in the past few decades mainly due to the health benefits brought about by cycling. However, more bicyclists on the road also means more collisions between cycles and motor vehicles.

WPTV.com reports that an accident involving a bicycle and a car occurred on April 18 in Boynton Beach. Preliminary investigation revealed the cyclist was riding on a sidewalk along Boynton Beach Boulevard near Congress Ave. The driver of the vehicle was pulling out of a driveway when he struck the bicyclist, who became pinned under the car. Police said the driver did not see the cyclist. The injured cyclist, who was not immediately identified, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. There were no words about the injured cyclist’s condition.

The report says the cyclist did not pay attention to traffic, and that the driver did not see the cyclist. Many aspects of the crash scene will be used to determine the cause of the crash. It’s possible that the bicyclist was at fault, but it could also be that the driver caused the accident. Most road collisions in Florida are caused by someone’s negligence.

Cycling injuries can be serious because bicyclists are exposed to harsh elements such as metal, asphalt, and concrete. Even a minor collision has the potential to cause a cyclist harm and suffer cuts, broken bones and in more serious accidents head trauma, and spinal cord injuries. If both the cyclist and the driver were at fault for the accident, the cyclist may still entitled to compensation. The amount of compensation the injured cyclist will receive depends on the degree of fault assigned to each party.

Any person injured in a bicycle accident can benefit from an independent investigation by a bicycle accident attorney, in order to obtain fair and just compensation for their injuries and losses.
