May 31, 2013 Posted by in Truck accidents

Large trucks, particularly those that make frequent stops and move slowly, are known to cause numerous traffic crashes in Florida. According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, roughly 3,000 crashes in Florida involve heavy trucks, resulting in about 1,500 injuries and more than 50 deaths every year.

On May 21, a truck accident claimed the life of a man from Pasco County, as well as injured his wife and 3-year-old granddaughter. According to the Tampa Tribune, the crash occurred when a dump truck pulled in front of the man’s vehicle on Interstate 75 southbound.

The paper reported that the 1994 Mack dump truck was filled with a load of dirt in a construction zone. It travelled from the paved shoulder to enter I-75 south of State Road 56, but drove into the path of the Pasco County man’s southbound 2012 Hyundai.

Here are the 10 top causes of Florida truck accidents:

  1. Careless driving

  4. Improper lane change
  5. Improper turns
  6. Tailgating
  7. Speeding

  9. Distracted driving
  10. Drunk driving

A person who is injured in a truck accident – or the relatives of someone who is killed – should talk with a Florida truck accident attorney about possible compensation for their losses.
