Driver Crashes Into Arby’s At Port St. Lucie

Nov 8, 2012 Posted by in Motor Vehicle Accidents and Safety, Personal Injury

Vehicle collisions can happen in all sorts of ways.

Case in point: On November 5, an 80-year-old woman from Stuart was driving a vehicle that crashed one side of a Port St. Lucie fast food joint.

According to an account from WPTV news, the accident occurred at the Arby’s fast food restaurant in Port St. Lucie’s Towne Centre Shopping Center located on US 1.

Port St. Lucie authorities report that Mary O’Hara’s vehicle flew up the curb and hit an SUV shortly after 11 a.m., and that the car made a tight squeeze between a tree and a stop sign before it finally crashed into the side of the restaurant.

According to employee Barbara Rubsky, “Where she hit is where I prep my food every day and the wood would have taken my head off, that’s how close she was to where I work.”

Fortunately, the store had only been open for a few minutes, and there were only two inside. It appears that no one was badly hurt in the accident.

Automobile collisions with fixed objects – such as homes, businesses, trees and telephone poles – are more common than you might think.

Here are some of the frequent causes:

  • Driver distraction from texting, talking on the phone, or adjusting the radio
  • Driver fatigue or sleepiness
  • Drinking or using drugs while driving
  • Mistakenly striking the accelerator when reaching for the brake pedal
  • A medical condition that impairs the driver’s coordination or reaction time
  • Intentionally ramming the vehicle into the fixed object.
