Florida Teams Up With FTA To Curb Distracted Driving Among Public Transit Employees

Mar 30, 2012 Posted by in Distracted Driving

Distracted driving has become a growing national problem, and the federal government is ready to take action. This week, the FTA or Federal Transit Administration announced that they are teaming up with the FDOT or Florida Department of Transportation in order to lessen cases of distracted driving among the public transit system employees.

The FTA and FDOT plan to develop a 30-minute instruction course designed for transit employees, aimed at reminding employees of the dangers of distracted driving. According to FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff, the program will be a tremendous tool to inform and educate all transit workers, as well as increase awareness on the dangers and challenges of distracted driving.

The course will be optional, but the FTA strongly encourages transit systems to incorporate it into their existing employee safety and training programs.
