Bicyclist Norman Stauber Dies After Crashing With Port St. Lucie Patrol Car at Bayshore and Swan Avenue

According to an official Florida Highway Patrol press release, Norman Eric Stauber, 50, of Port St. Lucie, died Monday evening when he was run over by a marked Port St. Lucie patrol car.

The bizarre accident occurred at the intersection of SW Bayshore Blvd and SW Swan Ave in north Port St. Lucie.

The FHP states Stauber was riding northbound on the western sidewalk of SW Bayshore Boulevard approaching SW Swan Avenue. At the same time, a Ford Crown Victoria Port St. Lucie patrol car, driven by Steven Camara, 51, of Port St. Lucie, was headed southbound on SW Bayshore.

Just before the intersection, cyclist Stauber drove off the sidewalk and fell into a traffic lane on SW Bayshore. Camara’s Crown Vic then hit the cyclist with its right side tires. Stauber was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
